Malawi’s President receives Abdullah bin Zayed and witnesses the signing of five memoranda of understanding between the two countries.
His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, received His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of Her Excellency Nancy Gladys Tembo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malawi, at the start of His Highness’s working visit to the capital, Lilongwe.
During the meeting, His Highness conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, may God protect him; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him; and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to His Excellency, and their wishes for the Republic of Malawi and its people for development and prosperity.
For his part, His Excellency conveyed his greetings to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and his wishes for the UAE’s continued progress and prosperity.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly economic, trade, investment, development, and other sectors that serve the mutual interests of the two countries and their peoples.
His Highness affirmed that the UAE attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with the Republic of Malawi and building effective development partnerships that support the two countries’ efforts to achieve sustainable development and prosperity. He also noted the UAE’s keenness to strengthen its partnerships, particularly economic ones, with all friendly African countries.
His Highness expressed his pride in visiting Malawi and meeting His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, thanking His Excellency for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.
Following the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera witnessed the signing of five memoranda of understanding between the two countries.
They witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi regarding diplomatic training. The MoU was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and Her Excellency Nancy Gladys Tembo, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of investment between the two countries, signed by His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and His Excellency Vitumbeko Mumba, Minister of Trade and Industry of Malawi.
They also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the United Arab Emirates and the Government of the Republic of Malawi regarding investment cooperation in the minerals sector. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and His Excellency Ken Zikhali Ngom, Minister of Mining of Malawi.
They also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Digital School, one of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and the Government of the Republic of Malawi regarding cooperation in the digital learning initiative. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and Her Excellency Nancy Gladys Tembo, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Malawi, regarding the establishment of the UAE-Malawi Joint Business Council. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and His Excellency Vitumbeko Mumba, Minister of Trade and Industry.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; His Excellency Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic and Commercial Affairs; and His Excellency Khalifa Abdul Rahman Al Marzouqi, the UAE’s non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Malawi.
